The Russian "Moskvich M90" is based on the Chinese crossover MG QS, known as MG RX9 in the global market. Reviews from QS owners provide insights into the strengths and weaknesses of the future new model.
One of the main advantages of the car, according to users, is its appearance. In profile, the crossover looks particularly harmonious thanks to the large radiator grille, signature LED optics, 21-inch wheels, and retractable door handles. These elements create the feeling of a premium car, although the model is in the mass-market price segment, making it particularly attractive to buyers looking for a prestigious look without overpaying.
Interior space is another notable advantage. When using the MG QS as a five-seater car, the second row allows passengers to sit comfortably, crossing their legs, while still leaving enough space for the 517-liter luggage compartment. Many owners note that the interior is spacious and comfortable even on long journeys, and the Bose 12-speaker sound system provides clear and pleasant sound. Combined with high-quality sound insulation, this makes trips comfortable. The suspension with CDC shock absorbers helps the crossover to maintain a stable road holding, effectively cope with bumps and speed bumps, without creating a feeling of swaying or excessive stiffness.
The price of the MG QS is also attractive. Compared to its closest competitors, such as the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento, the model is significantly cheaper. In the UAE market, the crossover costs 99,000 dirhams (about 2.18 million rubles), while the Santa Fe sells from 121,000 dirhams (2.66 million rubles), and the Sorento from 128,000 dirhams (2.82 million rubles). Owners note that the price/equipment ratio of the MG QS looks favorable and allows you to get a large, spacious crossover with a number of premium details for less money.
Among the disadvantages, owners highlight the dynamics. The MG QS for the global market is equipped with only a 2-liter turbocharged engine with 208 hp, which works in tandem with a 9-speed "robot" with a double clutch. Many note that the car's start is too thoughtful, and the turbo lag is noticeable, especially when accelerating from a standstill. The Start/Stop system, which cannot be turned off manually, exacerbates the feeling of "heavy" acceleration. As a result, the comfortable speed range during acceleration is limited to 40-80 km/h, which imposes certain restrictions on overtaking in urban conditions and on the highway.
The climate control system has also been criticized. This is especially true for the second row of seats: the flow of cold air arrives slowly, about 20 minutes after turning on the air conditioner, while the front seats cool down faster. Owners note that in hot weather, passengers in the back may feel discomfort until the system fully cools the cabin.
The MG QS multimedia system also causes complaints. The central screen works slowly, navigating through the menu is accompanied by pauses, and the icons are too small, making it difficult to press them the first time. The voice assistant supports a limited set of commands and does not always correctly recognize them, which means that controlling the multimedia and some functions of the car takes time and patience.
Retractable door handles, although they improve the appearance of the crossover, sometimes create problems. Some owners complain about the unstable operation of the mechanism, errors when extending, and the need to re-unlock the car. This adds minor inconveniences to everyday use, especially in the cold season or during frequent trips.
The third row of seats in the MG QS received mixed reviews. If you use the car as a two-row, the interior remains spacious, and the trunk is quite roomy. However, only children will be comfortable in the third row - adult passengers do not have enough leg and hip room, and the fit is uncomfortable and quickly tiring. When the third-row seats are folded out, the trunk is reduced, which limits the possibility of transporting large cargo.
The "M" line of crossovers of Russian production is scheduled for release in the spring. Reviews from MG QS owners give the Moskvich plant the opportunity to assess the pros and cons of the prototype in advance and make the necessary adjustments to the design to adapt the car to the Russian market and the needs of future buyers.
