In Russia, the idea of building a new automobile plant that could become an alternative to AvtoVAZ is being discussed. The proposal was put forward by Deputy Sergei Mironov.
Sergei Mironov realizes that many will be against it, but considering the situation in the automotive industry and government support measures, he sees no real alternative. Mironov emphasized that AvtoVAZ is an important asset and it is good that it exists, but it is bad that it only operates in the passenger car segment.
The deputy believes that without real competition, all support measures and legislative initiatives, such as the taxi localization project, remain insufficiently effective. The parliamentarian is confident that a new ambitious project and competition will become an incentive for qualitative changes in the industry.
Mironov noted that state support for the automotive industry is already significant: at the end of 2023, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov reported on the allocation of about 1.4 trillion rubles for these purposes.
It is not yet clear where the plant could be built, what models it will produce, and who will be the investor, but it is clear that the deputy is serious.
