Import of new foreign cars to Russia collapsed

Imports fell by 63% in a year

In June 2025, imports of new passenger cars to Russia amounted to 25.8 thousand units, which is 63% lower than last year's figures.

According to Sergey Tselikov, head of the Autostat agency, Chinese brands showed the largest reduction — by 73%. The decline is especially noticeable for the Jetour, Jaecoo and Omoda brands, where imports fell by 99%, as well as for Chery (–97%) and Exeed (–83%). This is due to the development of local assembly: Exeed cars are already being assembled in Russia, and the warehouses of the former Volkswagen and GM plants are filled with Chery and Jaecoo models.

The leaders in imports in June were Changan and Geely, which do not have local production, although their supplies decreased by more than a third.

At the same time, imports of European, Japanese and Korean brands increased: Toyota (+126%, 1870 units), BMW (+118%, 1000 units) and Kia (+41%, 874 units) were among the top five importers.

In the first half of 2025, about 150 thousand new cars were imported to Russia, which is 63.5% less than in the same period of 2024.
