AvtoVAZ is preparing an update for the Lada Iskra, adding a 120-horsepower engine borrowed from the Lada Azimut crossover to the lineup. This 1.6-liter 16-valve naturally aspirated engine will be the most powerful in the model range.
Currently, the Iskra is available with 1.6-liter engines producing 90 hp with a five-speed manual transmission and 106 hp with a six-speed manual or CVT.
The new engine will appear in 2026 and will be paired with a six-speed manual or CVT. It is primarily intended for the heaviest version — the Lada Iskra SW Cross station wagon, which with the current 106-horsepower engine and CVT accelerates to 100 km/h in 13 seconds, reaching a top speed of 172 km/h.
Installing a 120-horsepower engine will improve the Iskra's dynamics, making it more competitive in the compact car segment. AvtoVAZ has also identified the model's main competitors, including the Chinese Changan Alsvin and BAIC U5 Plus, as well as the rebranded Kia Rio under the Solaris brand.
