Chinese brands are capturing the Russian market of fresh used cars

In the first half of the year, the secondary market for cars manufactured in 2022 and later reached 153.8 thousand units, which is only 5.6% of the total used car market (2.73 million units). The main feature of the segment was the dominance of Chinese brands, which occupied 38% of the market, surpassing Russian brands with a share of 32.5%. Japanese cars hold 10.2%, while German and Korean brands have similar figures — 7.9% and 7.6%, respectively.

Lada leads the ranking of the most popular brands in the secondary market of fresh cars with a share of 30.3%. Among Chinese brands, Geely (6.5%), Chery (6.4%), Haval (6.4%), Changan (3.2%) and Exeed (2.9%) are in the top 10. Japanese Toyota took fifth place with 5.1%, and Korean Kia and Hyundai took sixth and eighth places with 4.1% and 3.3%. German BMW also entered the top ten with 3.3%.

The most popular model in the market of fresh used cars is Lada Granta. Among foreign cars, Haval Jolion is the leader, and Toyota Camry is the most popular of the alternative options. The growing influence of Chinese brands highlights changes in consumer preferences.
