Alibaba to launch automotive brand in Russia

IM Motors from SAIC and Alibaba registers brand in Russia

The logo of the Chinese automaker IM Motors, a joint project of SAIC and Alibaba, has been officially registered in Russia. The trademark application was filed by Zhiji Automotive Technology and recorded in the Rospatent (FIPS) database, which could be the first step towards the brand's entry into the Russian market.

The trademark is a stylized combination of the letters IM, visually referring to elements of a Chinese character. According to the developers, it symbolizes the concept of a digital car of the future, based on artificial intelligence, virtual assistants and the integration of digital services.

The registration covers a wide range of goods and services: cars, spare parts, software, GPS equipment, cameras and maintenance. Despite the lack of official statements about the start of sales in the Russian Federation, such steps usually indicate preparation for launch or strategic protection of the brand in a new market.
