Volkswagen and Xpeng to Expand Cooperation to Gasoline and Hybrid Cars

From 2027, the common platform will be used not only in electric vehicles

Volkswagen Group and Xpeng have announced the expansion of their cooperation to introduce the CEA electronic architecture in China. From 2027, it will be used not only in electric vehicles, but also in gasoline and plug-in hybrid models. This will strengthen Volkswagen's position in the largest market, where the company delivered over 2 million cars in 2024, 90% of which were with gasoline engines.

The CEA architecture, created in collaboration with Xpeng, uses a high-performance computing platform to support advanced driver assistance systems and an AI assistant. It reduces the number of electronic control units, increasing environmental friendliness and simplifying OTA updates. This allows for faster implementation of digital services tailored to customer needs.

Expanding CEA to traditional powertrains will reduce costs and increase Volkswagen's competitiveness. Standardization of the architecture will ensure scalability and flexibility, maintaining the company's leadership in innovation in the Chinese market.
