GM has officially announced the launch of the Super Cruise system in the Middle East, becoming the first automaker to bring an ADAS-level system to the market. Now, Cadillac, GMC, and Chevrolet models with hands-free functionality have the ability to drive without constant steering wheel control, entrusting part of the driving to a smart system.
In order to launch the system, a large-scale geodetic work was carried out in the region. The General Authority for Survey and Geospacial Information (GEOSA) allowed for HD mapping of roads, which became part of the Saudi Vision 2030 program. Now that the pilot mapping of urban roads has been successfully completed, it has become possible to continue the project for intercity highways.
As Jack Uppal, head of GM Africa and Middle East, emphasizes, the main goal of launching this innovative system is to significantly improve road safety and increase passenger comfort. The company believes that Super Cruise is especially in demand in the context of long trips typical of the region. The introduction of technology will become the foundation for further promotion of autonomous vehicles in the Middle East.
