AvtoVAZ Suspends Turbo Engine Development for Lada Azimut, But Project Not Closed

Reason - Transition to a Four-Day Work Week

AvtoVAZ has temporarily frozen the project to create a turbocharged version of the Lada Azimut crossover. The decision is related to the company's transition to a four-day work week and an excess of warehouse stocks of other models - in particular, Lada Aura and Lada Iskra.

According to sources, the company approved the configuration of the new unit in the summer and began integrating it into the platform. We are talking about an in-line four-cylinder 16-valve engine with a timing chain drive, with a capacity of about 150 hp and a torque of 200 Nm. This engine was supposed to become the top option in the line and significantly improve the dynamics of the model.

Currently, the project has not been canceled, but only suspended until the production and financial conditions stabilize. The development of atmospheric versions with 1.6 and 1.8 liter engines continues without reducing funding.

Thus, the Lada Azimut with a turbo engine is still listed in AvtoVAZ's plans, but its debut is postponed - priority is still given to serial atmospheric versions that are already ready for launch.
