Chinese company BYD sold over 1.6 million electric vehicles from January to September 2025, surpassing American Tesla by 388,000 units. During the same period, the American company delivered approximately 1.22 million vehicles.
Compared to the same period last year, BYD's sales increased by 37%, while Tesla recorded a decrease of 6%. If current trends continue, BYD appears poised to end 2025 as the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturer.
In the third quarter of 2025, Tesla sold 497,100 vehicles, while BYD once again took the lead with 582,500 vehicles. Thus, the Chinese company strengthened its advantage in the global electric vehicle race.
Analysts believe that BYD excels in its approach to the product range. While Elon Musk's company exclusively produces electric vehicles, BYD continues to manufacture both pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. This diversification helps the Chinese company maintain high sales volumes.
It was previously reported that BYD opened agiant electric vehicle plant in Brazil on the premises of a former Ford site. Tesla's latest news is of a different nature - in the US, a review of 2.8 million vehicles has begundue to the high accident rate of the autopilot system.
