Not According to Plan: KGM (SsangYong) to Start Car Production in Russia, But with a Delay

Production was previously scheduled to begin before the end of 2025

Korean company KGM (formerly SsangYong) has changed its plans to launch car production in Russia. According to the brand's press service, the start of local assembly has been postponed from autumn 2025 to 2026. The company does not disclose the reasons for the shift in timing.

Initially, it was assumed that the production of KGM cars would begin at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad. However, the project will be implemented later than expected. At the same time, it is still not specified which models will be included in the Russian assembly program — brand representatives previously noted that the compact crossover Tivoli is unlikely to be localized.

Currently, KGM remains the only foreign automaker, not belonging to Chinese brands, that is officially present on the Russian market with full warranty and service support.

The model range includes Tivoli, Korando, Torres crossovers and Rexton frame SUV.
