Buying some BMWs threatens Russians with large financial losses due to fragile engines. Auto expert Alexander Kovalev spoke about the most unreliable models of the brand.
According to him, you should beware of the four-cylinder N20 engine, which was produced from 2011 to 2018 and became one of the most controversial BMW developments.
The engine is known for problems with the timing chain drive, oil leaks and premature wear of the piston group.
After the upgrade in 2015, some of the problems were fixed. However, the specialist warned that you should be as careful as possible when buying cars from 2011-2014 with such an engine. These include BMW 3 and 5 series, as well as X1 and X3 crossovers.
The N13 engine, which is similar in design and created in partnership with Peugeot, inherited the diseases of the N20, including oil leaks and timing problems. Such engines were installed on the younger models of the 1st and 2nd series in the period from 2011 to 2016.
