AvtoVAZ has suspended work on the RGM project - an extended version of the Niva Travel SUV, which was planned to be launched in 2027. The decision was made at one of the meetings at the enterprise.
The main reason is the too high cost of upgrading the outdated platform. Engineers calculated that the modernization would require almost as much investment as it would take to create a completely new car.
Recall that the RGM project was to be a deep revision of the Niva Travel with the introduction of the electronic architecture from Lada Vesta. AvtoVAZ planned to change the body, interior and exterior, but economic calculations showed that the costs would not pay off.
Now the company will focus on a phased update of the current Niva Travel - improving the interior, ergonomics and technical equipment. Even if the project is resumed, the serial version of the RGM will not be released earlier than 2029.
