The first owners of the new Lada Iskra have encountered an unexpected problem — the cars are not being registered with the traffic police. One of the buyers reported being denied registration.
Iskra owner Sergey V. said that when trying to register his new Lada Iskra, traffic police inspectors found a discrepancy between the actual engine number and the record in the electronic vehicle passport (E-PTS).
I was denied car registration today because the actual engine number does not match the E-PTS. I'm going to the dealer to sort it out. The engine number doesn't match, but the VIN is fine.
After the refusal, the man contacted the official dealer. They acknowledged the problem and sent an appeal to AvtoVAZ, and also contacted other Iskra buyers and invited them to verify the numbers.
They made a video recording of the model and engine number and sent it all to the factory to make changes to the E-PTS.
According to preliminary data, the engine on the Iskra is a new development, and its marking differs from those previously used on the Granta family models. It is likely that a technical error was made when issuing the first electronic vehicle passports, which will now be corrected.
