The former Toyota plant in St. Petersburg will be relaunched in early to mid-2026, according to Alexander Sitov, Chairman of the Committee for Industrial Policy, Innovation and Trade of the city.
The specific models to be produced at the plant are not yet specified. Previously, the Toyota Camry and RAV4 were assembled at the site, with a plant capacity of 100,000 vehicles per year.
This will be a thousand cars per year after the restart. We are conveying the timelines announced by the participants in the restart – KAMAZ, Gazprom, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, together with a partner.
According to Sitov, the city's enterprises produced 42,000 cars last year, with about 50,000 expected in 2025, and production could double by 2026.
The plant has been operating since 2007 and became the first car assembly plant in St. Petersburg. It has been idle since March 2022 after Toyota left the Russian market.
