In the spring of 2026, production of the updated Volga business-class sedan, the C50, will begin in Nizhny Novgorod. The model has already passed all certification procedures and is preparing to enter the market, where it will have to compete with Chinese and Russian cars in the mid-range and upper price segments.
The Volga C50 is built on the Chinese Geely Preface platform, but features an original front-end design, a signature radiator grille, and logos. The car is equipped with a 2-liter turbocharged engine producing 150 hp, which is less than that of the original Preface. This decision should reduce the model's cost and increase its appeal for private buyers and government customers.
The Geely Preface is still on sale in Russia for now, but its inventory is shrinking. Prices for the model range from 3.36 to 3.57 million rubles, and further price increases are possible due to the rise in the recycling fee. Against this background, the Volga C50 with a less powerful engine may prove to be noticeably more affordable.
In the business sedan segment, the C50 will have to compete with the Bestune B70, Chery Arrizo 8, Hongqi H5, and Lada Aura. The Bestune B70 is offered at prices ranging from 2.84 to 3.6 million rubles and is preparing for localization. The Chery Arrizo 8 costs from 2.87 to 3.28 million rubles, the Hongqi H5 is being actively purchased for government needs, and the Lada Aura remains the most affordable option with a starting price of 2.25 million rubles.
