The electric motorcycle market is currently less popular than electric cars, but the situation may change. Verge Motorcycles and Donut Lab have demonstrated fast charging of a new battery that could significantly accelerate the segment's development.
During the tests, a modernized Verge TS Pro electric motorcycle received a new generation 18 kWh battery. The test showed a peak charging power of over 100 kW: the state of charge increased from 10% to 70% in just over 9 minutes, and to 80% in approximately 12 minutes.
The developers claim that the new battery charges approximately three times faster than the previous version. It uses air cooling, while most electric vehicles with high charging speeds use liquid systems.
According to Donut Lab representatives, the high energy density allows for the creation of compact batteries without losing efficiency, which is especially important for motorcycles with limited space.
Verge previously stated that its new models will be able to provide a range of up to 299 km and charge in minutes when using powerful charging stations. The development of such technologies, including solid-state batteries, could be a key factor in the growth of the electric motorcycle market in the coming years.
