The government commission on legislative activity has approved the initiative of the "New People" faction to introduce a paid sale of "vanity" registration plates. The idea was previously supported by the president.
The project provides for the possibility of reserving number combinations through the "Gosuslugi" portal. We are talking about alphanumeric combinations that are considered more attractive.
The authors of the initiative estimate the potential budget revenue from the innovation at 25 billion rubles annually. At the same time, specific parameters — which numbers will be considered "vanity" and at what price they will be offered — have not yet been disclosed.
A key condition for the implementation of the project may be a ban on the transfer of the registration plate along with the car when it is sold. Such a measure is necessary to exclude the repeated circulation of already issued numbers and ensure the functioning of the system.
The initiative has been discussed for several years. After support at the government level, it may move to the next stage of consideration.
