KamAZ Reveals Reasons for Truck Market Crisis

Alexander Migal Names Factors for Sales Decline: Overproduction, Imports, and Market Changes

KamAZ explained the decline in sales of new trucks in Russia as a combination of factors, including overproduction and changes in regulation. The reasons for the decline were explained by Alexander Migal, Director of the Marketing Department of PJSC "KAMAZ".

The first factor was the decision in 2022, when the state reduced certification requirements and opened the market for imports.

The first reason: in 2022, in order to avoid a possible shock to the economy, the state opened borders and reduced the then-existing requirements for certification and market protection. This made it possible to avoid the shock that everyone considered inevitable. But, like any potent medicine, such actions have side effects. One of them was the almost uncontrolled import of cars into the country. Then everyone who wasn't lazy started importing. In 2024 alone, more than 85 thousand units of trucks were imported into the country. And these are just the Chinese.

The second reason he cited was market saturation. In 2023–2024, companies purchased about 250 thousand trucks, with an average demand level of 70–80 thousand vehicles.

The third factor was market consolidation. Large transport and trading companies are increasing their own fleets and are ready to use leasing even at high rates.

It is also noted that KamAZ is preparing a jubilee series of trucks for its 50th anniversary. The models will receive an updated cab design, new optics and radiator grille illumination.
