Nissan may bring back an affordable sports car, including a possible revival of the Silvia, said company head Ivan Espinosa. According to him, the brand should not follow the path of simplified "charged" versions of mass models.
Instead of a "hot" Sentra, I would rather make a Silvia - a real affordable sports car.
At the same time, Espinosa clarified that the decision to return Silvia has not yet been made. However, the company is considering expanding the range of sports models and possibly reviving several historical names.
Currently, Nissan has a limited offer in the segment: in fact, the only sports car remains the Nissan Z. At the same time, the niche of affordable coupes is occupied by competitors such as the Mazda MX-5 Miata, Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86.
The management admits that in recent years the company has not implemented a number of declared projects in the segment of affordable sports cars. The new course involves a return to the key role of such models in the brand's strategy.
Espinosa stressed that sports cars remain the "core" of Nissan's identity, but specific dates and models have not yet been disclosed.
