Toyota Camry sedans sold 78,255 units in the first quarter of 2026 and for the first time in almost a decade outpaced sales of the Toyota RAV4 model — 59,869 vehicles over the same period.
Camry sales growth amounted to 11.3% year-on-year, while RAV4 declined by 48.1% due to a generational change. Despite the update factor, automakers are noting a new trend — interest in sedans is beginning to grow.
According to industry data, high prices for crossovers and SUVs have become one of the reasons for revising strategy. Such models long provided high margins, but are now becoming less affordable for some buyers.
Ford, Nissan, and Stellantis say they are reassessing the role of sedans. Executives note that demand for the classic body style remains, especially among buyers looking for compact and affordable solutions.
An additional factor may be changes in U.S. fuel regulations: revising the classification of crossovers as passenger cars will reduce their advantages under efficiency standards.
