Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor announced at Auto China 2026 the development of a GT3 racing car. The project is named Great Faith and will be the brand's first attempt to enter one of the most widespread classes of global motorsport, with a debut expected as early as 2027.
The car will be equipped with its own 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. The development is led by former McLaren chief engineer Adam Thomson. The project also includes the creation of a road version based on the racing car.
The launch of the GT3 program is associated with the creation of a new Great Wall sports division. Currently, the company focuses on crossovers, SUVs, and utility models. The exception remains the Spotlight Automotive joint venture with BMW, which produces Mini electric vehicles.
Other Chinese brands are also increasing their presence in motorsport. Chery plans to debut in the 24 Hours of Le Mans within five years. BYD is considering participation in the World Endurance Championship and Formula 1, including a possible launch of its own hypercar.
