Tesla has begun mass production of the Tesla Semi electric truck at its Nevada factory. The first vehicle rolled off the line in late April 2026, confirmed Elon Musk. Production is underway at a 1.7 million square foot facility next to Gigafactory Nevada. Previously, since 2023, production was in small batches: several hundred trucks were assembled, some of which were used for tests and pilot programs with PepsiCo, Walmart, and DHL.
The Tesla Semi was first unveiled almost nine years ago, but launch dates were repeatedly postponed. In 2025, the model was updated, and the final version became approximately 450 kg lighter compared to the prototype.
The truck will be available in two versions. The base model has a range of 520 km with a gross combined weight of 37 tons. The long-range version is designed for 800 km. Both variants are equipped with a three-motor setup with a power output of 800 kW.
Energy consumption is stated at 1.7 kWh per mile, which implies a battery of about 900 kWh for the higher-end version. Charging power of up to 1.2 MW is supported: up to 60% capacity can be replenished in 30 minutes.
According to unofficial data, the price is about 260 thousand dollars (19,500,000 rubles) for the base version and 290 thousand dollars (21,750,000 rubles) for the Long Range. This is lower than competitors, including the Freightliner eCascadia and Volvo VNR Electric.
Tesla plans to gradually increase production to 50 thousand trucks per year. Deliveries to customers are expected to begin in 2026.
