MG Motor has revealed the exterior of its new flagship liftback, the MG 07. The model will be one of the most technologically advanced in the brand's lineup and, at the same time, one of the most provocative. The main topic of discussion is already clear: the MG 07 too closely resembles the Porsche Taycan. The car has a similar silhouette, a characteristic sloping roof, air ducts in the front fenders, and lighting in the style of the German sports sedan.
However, the price difference is enormous. In China, MG promises a price of less than 200,000 yuan (2,185,000 rubles). For comparison, the Taycan in the local market starts at approximately 918,000 yuan (10,000,000 rubles).
But the focus is not only on design. The MG 07 is built on SAIC's new platform for vehicles with alternative powertrains. Buyers will be offered both fully electric versions and plug-in hybrids.
Even more important is the level of electronics. Top trim levels will receive the Momenta R7 autonomous driving system with Urban Navigate on Autopilot function. The car will be able to drive independently in the city, change lanes, navigate interchanges, and park without driver intervention.
A lidar is installed on the roof for the system to operate. During autonomous mode, the car will be illuminated with turquoise signals—this is a new visual standard for Chinese autopilot systems.
SAIC specifically emphasizes that the MG 07's algorithms can not only copy human actions but also predict the development of traffic situations. In fact, Chinese manufacturers are gradually transforming cars from a category of transport into a category of software platforms.
The appearance of the MG 07 also shows another trend: Chinese brands are no longer trying to catch up with the premium segment—they are starting to attack it directly, offering similar design and technology for a third of the price.
