Serial version of Xiaomi YU7 GT spotted on Chinese roads

An ultra-powerful crossover with hypercar-level acceleration could become a new nightmare for Porsche

Xiaomi continues its rapid transformation from a smartphone manufacturer into one of the most aggressive players in the automotive market. The almost production-ready Xiaomi YU7 GT, the top version of an electric SUV that will boast nearly 1000 hp and supercar-level characteristics, has been spotted in China for the first time.

According to preliminary data, the YU7 GT is equipped with a dual-motor setup producing 738 kW, or about 990 hp. The front motor develops 386 hp, and the rear one 604 hp. The top speed is stated to be 300 km/h, and acceleration to 100 km/h could take just over two seconds. For a heavy SUV, this is already Rimac, Lotus, and Tesla Model X Plaid territory.

Visually, the YU7 GT features wider wheel arches, a new aerodynamic body kit, an enlarged diffuser, and large brakes. Carbon fiber elements and special 21- and 22-inch wheels were also noticed on test vehicles. Some Chinese media compare the car's silhouette to the Ferrari Purosangue.

But the main story here is not the design. Xiaomi is essentially replicating Porsche and Tesla's strategy: first a mass-market model, then an extreme version that serves as a technological showcase for the brand. After the success of the 1526 hp SU7 Ultra sedan, the company is clearly betting on record-breaking performance as part of its brand image.

It is particularly telling that Xiaomi is entering the ultra-powerful car segment just a few years after launching its automotive division. For traditional manufacturers, this is an unpleasant signal: Chinese IT companies are now competing not only in digital services and batteries but also in the high-performance automotive segment.
