The Moskvich car plant has officially confirmed plans to launch a hybrid vehicle under its own brand. According to the company's CEO, Elena Frolova, serial production of such a model should begin in 2027.
Although the technical specifications of the upcoming novelty have not yet been disclosed, the choice of technology itself seems indicative. Over the past few years, the company has actively developed the electric vehicle direction, but the market is increasingly showing interest specifically in hybrids. Such vehicles combine an internal combustion engine and an electric power unit, allowing for reduced fuel consumption without complete dependence on charging infrastructure.
The idea of a hybrid "Moskvich" has been discussed for several years. Earlier, plant representatives spoke about the possible release of models with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system and an electric range sufficient for daily city trips.
The focus on hybrids coincides with the general market trend. According to "Autostat", sales of such vehicles in Russia in the first four months of 2026 more than doubled, reaching almost 20 thousand cars. The segment's share has already exceeded 5% of the new car market.
Against this background, several manufacturers are preparing hybrid models, including AvtoVAZ and Aurus. For "Moskvich", the new project can become not only an expansion of the lineup but also an attempt to gain a foothold in one of the fastest-growing segments of the Russian car market.
