BYD has launched its new flagship sedan, the Seal 08, in the Chinese market, making it one of the brand's most technologically advanced models. The new car combines modern powertrains, a long range, and a wide array of electronic systems, while maintaining a price point in the mass-market segment.
The model belongs to the Ocean family and is classified as a large sedan, comparable in size to the Toyota Camry and Lexus ES. Buyers will be offered both all-electric and plug-in hybrid versions, as well as rear-wheel and all-wheel drive modifications.
The main feature of the hybrid version is its impressive range. According to the manufacturer, the car can travel up to 400 km purely on electric power (according to the Chinese test cycle), with a total driving range of up to 1660 km without refueling or recharging.
The all-electric version also boasts high autonomy figures. Depending on the configuration, the range is up to 905 km, while the dual-motor all-wheel drive modification can cover up to 784 km on a single charge (according to the Chinese cycle).
For its flagship model, BYD has also prepared an extended set of technologies. The Seal 08 is equipped with the proprietary intelligent DiSus suspension, which analyzes the road surface and proactively adjusts shock absorber settings, enhancing ride comfort. Additionally, the car features an all-wheel steering chassis, allowing the rear wheels to turn for improved maneuverability.
The equipment list also includes front seats with "zero gravity" function, ventilation, and massage, a multimedia system with a 15.6-inch display, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
The car's price is particularly noteworthy. In China, the Seal 08 is offered in six trim levels, with prices ranging from 209,800 to 255,800 yuan (approximately 29,000–35,000 US dollars). With this level of equipment, the model is significantly more affordable than many competitors in its class.
Sales of the new sedan have already begun in the Chinese market. With the Seal 08, the company aims to strengthen its position in the segment of large, technologically advanced vehicles, where competition among local manufacturers continues to intensify rapidly.
