Daihatsu has unveiled the updated Taft for the Japanese market. The main innovations include two special versions – Rugged Venture and Active Mode, as well as a modernized safety system suite and a digital instrument panel. The update is expected to help the model maintain competitiveness against the recently modernized Suzuki Hustler and Mitsubishi Delica Mini.

Both new trim levels are based on the high-end G and G Turbo versions and are aimed at buyers leading an active lifestyle. The Rugged Venture features decorative elements in Smoked Chrome trim, a black radiator grille, new tailgate overlays, and 15-inch Gunmetal alloy wheels. The Active Mode version received darker exterior decor, and the optional Active Mode Style package adds bright orange accents to the body, wheels, and fog lights.

The exterior of the standard Taft remains largely unchanged. The only addition is a new Spark Orange body color.

The interior now features a digital instrument panel with a 7-inch display and improved graphics. A nine-inch multimedia system is still available as an option. In addition, the car received a removable container under the trunk floor, while retaining the signature Sky Feel Top panoramic glass roof.

The most notable changes concern the safety systems. The updated Smart Assist suite can now recognize cyclists, oncoming traffic when turning right, and pedestrians when making turns. The maximum operating speed of the automatic emergency braking system for pedestrians has been increased to 80 km/h. The adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist system have also been re-tuned.

The technical part remains unchanged. The Taft is equipped with a 658-cc three-cylinder engine producing 52 hp in the naturally aspirated version or 64 hp with a turbocharger. Both engines work with a CVT variator, and buyers can choose between front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive versions.

The price of the updated Daihatsu Taft in Japan starts from 1,435,500 yen (about 690 thousand rubles), and the maximum Active Mode Turbo 4WD trim is estimated at 1,930,500 yen (approximately 926 thousand rubles).
