Bentley has revealed new details about its first production electric car – the Torcal crossover, which will have its world premiere on September 23. Instead of the traditional imitation of an internal combustion engine sound, the British manufacturer has developed an original sound design created using recordings of real musical instruments.

Bentley emphasizes that they did not try to reproduce the sound of proprietary V8 gasoline engines using digital effects. According to the company's engineers, artificial imitation cannot convey the sensations created by a real engine.

Therefore, a special sound composition was recorded for the Torcal with the participation of musicians using percussion instruments, viola, and bass guitar. The system will change the sound depending on the driver's actions, enhancing the emotional perception of acceleration and vehicle movement.

The developers gave a special role to percussion instruments. Bentley believes that their rhythm is closest to the characteristic pulsating sound of an eight-cylinder engine. To test this hypothesis, engineers conducted a series of experiments during which participants compared the emotional perception of V8 engine recordings and drum parts through special parabolic acoustic systems.

Sales of the new Bentley Torcal are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2027.
