Subaru intends to preserve its sports direction even in the era of electrification. To this end, the company has created a new Product Innovation Division, within which a specialized Sports Vehicle Planning Office has begun operations. Its sole task is the development of sports cars.

The company is already working on three models prepared by STI engineers. All of them will receive a manual transmission. These include a more powerful version of the WRX, a new BRZ variant, and a sports hatchback, which may be released under the name Impreza TX.

Despite the development of the sports line, Subaru is not going to change its main strategy. Forester, Outback, and other mass-market models will remain the main sources of sales. They are what provide funding for STI projects.

At the same time, digital development methods open up new opportunities for creating niche cars. The company also confirmed that it is exploring the prospects of sports models with electrified powertrains, but technical details have not yet been disclosed.

For Subaru, the sports direction holds special significance. It was the Legacy RS, and then the Impreza WRX and WRX STI, that built the brand's reputation in world rallying and made it one of the most recognizable manufacturers of all-wheel-drive sports cars. The creation of a separate division indicates that the company intends to preserve this legacy in the future.
