Land Rover has officially confirmed that Discovery Sport production will end in December 2026. In some European countries, the model is already being gradually withdrawn from sale. This will mark the end of the brand's most affordable crossover, which has been produced for over eleven years.

The Discovery Sport debuted in 2015 and became a compact alternative to more expensive Land Rover models. Its departure underscores the changing role of the Discovery family in the manufacturer's lineup. In recent years, the company has focused its main investments on the development of the Range Rover and Defender brands, which generate the most profit.

One of the reasons for the cessation of production was not only the model's aging design but also the European General Safety Regulation 2 (GSR2) requirements that came into force. The new regulations mandate that vehicles must be equipped with an extended set of modern electronic safety and driver assistance systems. Adapting the Discovery Sport platform to these requirements would have required significant re-engineering, which the manufacturer deemed economically unfeasible.

However, Land Rover does not plan to abandon other models in the family. The Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Velar will remain in the lineup and continue to receive updates and special versions. This was previously stated by Martin Limpert, Managing Director of the Range Rover brand.

The freed-up capacity at the Halewood plant in the UK will be re-equipped for the production of the all-electric Range Rover GT, built on the new EMA platform. This reflects Jaguar Land Rover's strategy, which focuses on more expensive and profitable electric models.
