Hongqi will be the first third-party brand to receive BYD's second-generation Blade Battery. The technology will be integrated into Hongqi's next all-electric platform through the FAW and BYD joint venture – FAW FinDreams.

Until now, Blade Battery 2.0 and the Flash Charging system have only been used by BYD's own vehicles. The company introduced the new battery in March 2026: it received approximately 5% higher energy density, and charging from 10 to 70% using appropriate infrastructure takes about 5 minutes.

For Hongqi, this means a transition to a completely different level of charging speed. Moreover, FAW is already testing its own ultra-fast batteries: in July, one of them charged from 10 to 70% in 3 minutes 41 seconds.

Batteries for the project will be produced in Changchun. The FAW and BYD joint venture plans to launch three production lines with a total capacity of 45 GWh per year – enough for approximately 600,000 vehicles.

BYD is effectively starting to sell one of its key technologies to a competitor. If the project reaches mass production, the advantages of Blade Battery will cease to be exclusive to BYD vehicles. However, ultra-fast charging requires appropriate infrastructure. Therefore, the real capabilities of future Hongqi vehicles will depend not only on the battery but also on the availability of powerful charging stations.
