An unusual 1971 Plymouth Sport Fury, styled as a police car from "The Dukes of Hazzard" series, is up for auction on Bring a Trailer. The car received a corresponding paint job, a flashing light, a siren, and a loudspeaker. Bidding will close on August 25.
Originally, the Sport Fury was a civilian car, which was later converted into a replica of the Hazzard police sedan. The creators accurately reproduced the details of the on-screen vehicles.
Under the hood is a 6.3-liter V8 with a four-barrel carburetor. The power is 300 hp, and the engine works in conjunction with a three-speed automatic transmission. For a large American sedan of the early 1970s, such a setup was quite capable of chasing the famous Dodge Charger from the series.
Special attention was paid to the equipment. A Tomar 925 flashing light is installed on the roof, there is a siren and a loudspeaker. Even the maintenance sticker is stylized after Cooter's fictional garage from the series.
There is little practical value in such a conversion, but the collectible component is obvious. The buyer gets not just a classic Plymouth with a large V8, but a car that visually resembles one of the most recognizable police cars on American television.
And there is an important nuance: jumping over ditches in it, as in the series, is clearly not worth it. This Fury was created as a civilian car and only later took on the image of a television police sedan.
