In August, four Chinese models entered the top ten best-selling new cars in the British market, with the Jaecoo 7 taking second place.
Chinese brands continue to rapidly expand their presence in the UK. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Britons registered 94,236 new cars in August, and four Chinese models made it into the top ten.
The Jaecoo 7 showed the best result with 2,022 vehicles. The crossover was only surpassed by the Ford Puma but outperformed the MG HS, which sold 1,785 units. Fourth place went to another Jaecoo model, the 5, with 1,670 registrations. In sixth place was the Omoda 5 with 1,465 vehicles.
It is particularly noteworthy that three of the four Chinese models belong to the OMODA & JAECOO brands. In August alone, this company registered 6,238 vehicles in the UK, capturing 6.62% of the total market.
The success of Chinese brands comes amidst an overall increase in demand. The UK market grew by 13.7% in August, and sales of fully electric vehicles increased by 27.7% year-on-year. However, August traditionally remains a smaller month before the September license plate change.
