Volkswagen has officially confirmed a name change for its electric crossover. The updated ID.4 will enter the market as the ID. Tiguan and will succeed two models at once — the ID.4 and the coupe-like ID.5.

The new car will premiere in early October 2026, with sales in Europe beginning in early 2027. Before the premiere, Volkswagen will continue testing the car in camouflage. Technical specifications, battery capacity, range, and price have not yet been disclosed.

The main change is not just about the name. Volkswagen is transferring a name already well-known to customers to an electric model. Since its debut in 2007 until the end of May 2026, over 9 million Tiguan units have been sold worldwide. Since 2017, the model has also remained the best-selling car of the Volkswagen Group.

At the same time, the conventional Tiguan will not disappear. It will continue to be sold alongside the ID. Tiguan with gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. One family will be offered with different types of drive.
