Porsche is bringing back the internal combustion engine Macan to its model lineup. The new version is expected to appear in 2028 and will be sold alongside the existing electric Macan. The decision is due to demand for electric vehicles being lower than the company's previous expectations.

Porsche CEO Michael Leiters explains the strategy as a necessity to restore the gasoline part of the model range. At the same time, the company is not abandoning electric vehicles: according to him, the goal is a more balanced offering for customers who are not yet ready to fully switch to electric traction.

The statistics for the Macan itself are indicative. In the first quarter of 2026, Porsche delivered 18,209 units of this model, of which 10,130 had ICE. The electric Macan sold 8,079 units during the same period. The gasoline version continued to be sold outside the European Union.

Porsche has already officially adjusted its product strategy. The company decided to keep ICE models longer and add new cars with gasoline and hybrid powertrains. Simultaneously, electric models will continue to develop.

Separately, Leiters confirmed the fate of the 911: there will be no fully electric version of the iconic sports car. However, Porsche will continue to use hybrid technologies — the current 911 Turbo S has already received an electrified powertrain.
