Central Bank Calls for Doubling the Cost of OSAGO Insurance for Certain Regions of the Country

The increase will affect regions where insurance fraud is rampant

The Central Bank of the Russian Federation has published a draft regulation that provides for the introduction of a new regional coefficient affecting the cost of OSAGO. The main reason for this measure is the abundance of insurance fraudsters in some regions of the country. According to the RSA (Russian Union of Motor Insurers), at the moment there are only 2 regions left in which insurance fraud is a serious problem, namely Ingushetia and the Novosibirsk region. For almost 10 years, there have been practically no changes in these regions in terms of these anti-statistics, unlike the rest.

In addition to the new coefficient, the Central Bank also proposes to expand the "tariff corridor" of basic rates for insurers. For two-wheeled vehicles, it will be 40%, for all others - 15%. This will allow insurance agents to more accurately and quickly respond to insurance claims statistics and market changes.

It is separately noted that, although the new coefficient increases the cost of the policy, careful and conscientious owners should not worry - due to their CBM (bonus-malus coefficient), in the event of an accident-free ride, there will be no significant changes in the cost.
