Volkswagen Group, China FAW, and the Management Committee of the Chengdu Economic Development Zone have signed a cooperation agreement to develop the Jetta brand. The goal is to create a new company that will make Jetta a leader in Sichuan's automotive industry by integrating local development and the supply chain. This will ensure independence in decision-making and flexibility in operations.
The Jetta brand plans to release five new models by 2028, four of which will be electrified, likely as hybrids. The first model will appear as early as 2026, highlighting ambitious plans to update the lineup. The new strategy aims to strengthen Jetta's position in the Chinese market, where demand for affordable and technologically advanced cars continues to grow.
The expansion of cooperation between Volkswagen, FAW, and local authorities reflects the trend towards localizing production and developing models tailored to the needs of Chinese buyers. This will allow Jetta to compete with other brands, such as Geely and Changan, by offering modern solutions at an affordable price.
