Mass Recall of Lada Vesta? Russia Demands Inspection of These Cars

Allegedly, they have faulty steering

The National Automobile Union (NAS) has stated the need to conduct an official recall campaign for Lada Vesta cars. The reason is the risk of steering wheel lockup while driving, according to "Izvestia."

The reason was an accident in the Vladimir region. According to a preliminary version, the cause of the accident was a jammed steering mechanism while driving on the highway.

Auto blogger and lawyer Alexander Shumsky emphasized that this is the first confirmed incident after the manufacturer acknowledged the vulnerability of the steering system.

Manufacturer's Actions

Back in the summer, AvtoVAZ launched a free technical service program for Lada Vesta. The company offered owners a modification of the steering control unit to avoid the risk of accidental locking.

Experts suggest that the failure may be related to electronics: when the voltage drops in the on-board network, a software error occurs, which causes the system to block the steering wheel.
