BMW is officially ending production of the 8 Series - the models have disappeared from the online configurator and are no longer accepted for order. All versions will be discontinued: coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupe. Only a few units remain in warehouses, which will soon be sold out. The brand is closing one of its most prestigious and expensive projects of recent years.
The 8 Series lineup, revived in 2018 after a twenty-year hiatus, failed to achieve commercial success. Despite all its technical merits and flagship status, demand was lower than expected. Unlike the Porsche 911, which consistently maintains its position in the market, the "eight" did not become iconic and remained a niche offering. Production is gradually being phased out, and the last batch of cars will leave the factory in April 2026.
BMW does not plan to release either a direct successor or an electric version - the project is considered economically impractical. Now the role of top-level sports models will pass to the 4 Series and its M Performance versions.
The departure of the 8 Series has become a symbol of changes in BMW's strategy: the emphasis is shifting from prestigious image coupes to more mass-produced and electrified cars.
