Drivers who use car numbers issued in 2025 without the image of the Russian flag will face a fine of 500 rubles. The new decree does not apply to cars that were registered before January 1 of this year.
Drivers who do not comply with this rule will be held liable under Part 1 of Article 12.2 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation, which entails a fine or a warning.
The innovation is related to the entry into force of GOST "State registration plates of vehicles. Types and main dimensions. Technical requirements".
According to this standard, the Russian flag must be placed in the lower right corner of the license plate. The rule applies to all new registrations and re-registrations of vehicles.
GOST, which provides for the mandatory presence of the Russian tricolor on car license plates from 2025, was adopted by order of Rosstandart in November 2024.
