Two Tesla Cybertruck electric pickups were completely burned in a parking lot in Santa Monica, California, on March 4 at approximately 3:15 PM local time. The fire occurred on the roof of a multi-level parking garage. Notably, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
The Santa Monica Fire Department received a report of a fire in the parking lot, but by the time they arrived at the scene, both pickups were already completely engulfed in flames.
After the fire, only individual stainless steel body elements and parts of the steel platform remained from the vehicles. Videos from the scene show the cars completely destroyed by fire.
According to NBC Los Angeles, other Tesla cars were nearby in the parking lot. This led to speculation that the cars may have been placed there by a Tesla service center located on the same street. It is also being considered that the pickups belonged to residents of the Anara Santa Monica residential complex, to which the parking lot belongs.
The police are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. It is known that at the time of the fire, both cars were not connected to charging stations, so the version of a faulty charging equipment is excluded.
Investigators are considering various versions of what happened. Among them are possible technical malfunctions, including battery problems. Final conclusions will be made after the investigation is completed.
