Nissan has announced plans to cut up to 11 models to optimize the lineup and invest in growth. The company did not disclose specific cars, but said that "low-performing models" will be cut. The decision is related to the reallocation of resources to new products, including the return of the Nissan Xterra, the launch of the new Nissan Skyline, and the introduction of e-Power technology in the updated Nissan Rogue for the US market.
In the current US lineup, the Nissan Altima is a potential candidate: the model has been sold for almost a decade, and its sales have decreased by 18.1% to 93,268 cars. At the same time, the updated Nissan Sentra may take its place thanks to a more modern platform and a price of $22,600.
The Nissan Rogue Plug-in Hybrid and Nissan Murano also remain in question. The first is a redesigned Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, the second is a niche crossover. Despite a 121.3% increase in Murano sales to 42,747 units, volumes remain limited.
In foreign markets, the company may combine the lines of vans and kei cars, but such measures may affect demand.
