Renault and Geely unveil the X-Range C15 hybrid platform, enabling electric vehicles to be converted into PHEVs with minimal changes

The unit was developed by Horse Powertrain, a joint venture between the two automotive giants

Horse Powertrain, a joint venture between Renault and Geely, has developed a compact all-in-one module. It includes an engine, transmission, electric motor, and power electronics in a single housing. The system is designed for hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and range-extended vehicles. The unit is mounted on the rear subframe and can replace the rear electric motor in existing electric vehicles.

The base version is equipped with a naturally aspirated engine producing up to 94 hp. The turbocharged version delivers up to 161 hp and is aimed at larger models and commercial vehicles.

The powertrain operates in both series and parallel modes. The electric motor supplements the engine, and if necessary, the system supports all-wheel drive when using a front electric motor.

The development allows automakers to quickly adapt electric vehicle platforms for hybrid solutions without major structural changes. This reduces costs and speeds up the launch of models to the market.

The company notes that the solution takes into account current market conditions and demand for hybrid technologies as an alternative to fully electric vehicles.
