China Prepares 2000-hp Hypercar: The Horsepower Race Among Automakers Is Getting Out of Control

Zeekr may release a 001 FR version with Rimac Nevera and Lotus Evija-level output

Chinese automakers are increasingly entering the hypercar territory. According to Autoblog and Chinese insiders, Zeekr is preparing an extreme version of the 001 FR liftback with over 2000 hp. If confirmed, the model will become one of the most powerful production cars from China.

The current Zeekr 001 FR is already considered one of the fastest cars from the Geely brand. Its four-motor setup develops around 1300 hp, and acceleration to 100 km/h takes just over two seconds. Now, sources claim that the company is preparing a major update: a redesigned body, reinforced brakes, new tires, and an upgraded battery.

The main intrigue is the power system. Amidst increasing power, Chinese manufacturers are moving to 800- and even 1000-volt architectures with megawatt charging. Geely has already demonstrated ultra-fast charging technologies capable of replenishing energy reserves in minutes. For a hypercar with such output, this becomes critically important.

Just a few years ago, Chinese cars were primarily associated with affordability. Now, brands like Zeekr, BYD, and Xiaomi are trying to compete with Rimac, Lotus, and European supercars. This is an important signal for the market: China is no longer just a mass producer and is transforming into a full-fledged technological leader in the high-performance automotive segment.

However, the main question remains: how much of this power is actually needed for a road car? Even today, many hypercars are limited not by engine capabilities, but by the constraints of tires, cooling, and electronics.
