BMW turned the XM into a mobile nightclub, and it's the strangest M-car in years

The 738-hp hybrid SUV received a DJ console, smoke machines, and a huge screen right on the roof

BMW presented one of the most unusual projects in the history of the M division — the XM Label Soundmachine. This is essentially a show car based on the BMW XM Label, transformed into a full-fledged mobile DJ stage with an audio system, lighting equipment, and smoke machines.

The project was created by interns at the BMW Dingolfing plant. A platform for a DJ, a massive LED screen with an area of more than 6 square meters, professional Pioneer DJ equipment, four subwoofers, and four dBTechnologies stage speakers were installed on the crossover's roof. The most unusual detail is the smoke machines integrated into the wheel arches.

Despite its show format, the car remains fully functional. BMW received TÜV certification, allowing the car to move with the entire superstructure at speeds up to 15 km/h. However, the design added about 1400 kg of weight — the total mass of the XM exceeded 2.8 tons.

The technical basis remained standard for the XM Label. Under the hood is a hybrid system with a 4.4-liter V8 and an electric motor with a total output of 738 hp. Interestingly, it is the traction battery that allows the entire concert system to operate for about an hour without external power.

For BMW, this is not just an art project. The company is clearly trying to change the perception of the XM — one of the brand's most controversial cars. Sales of the model remain weak, and the SUV's design regularly draws criticism even among brand enthusiasts. Therefore, BMW is increasingly promoting the XM as a lifestyle flagship, and not just as a super-powerful hybrid crossover.
