Changan Automobile has officially joined China's new "hybrid" race. The company unveiled two models with the BlueCore HEV system: the Eado sedan and the CS75 Plus crossover. The main feature of BlueCore is its focus not on maximum range, but on efficiency and mass appeal. Changan claims an average fuel consumption of about 4 liters per 100 km and a thermal efficiency of the gasoline engine exceeding 44%. For production internal combustion engines, this is already on par with the best modern hybrid systems from Toyota and BYD.

Until recently, Chinese brands focused almost exclusively on all-electric vehicles. But in 2025–2026, the market began to change. Buyers are increasingly choosing hybrids due to their lower price, independence from charging infrastructure, and stable range in winter.

The HEV and PHEV segment is growing particularly rapidly in regions outside megacities. For many buyers, a hybrid has proven to be a more convenient transitional option between a classic internal combustion engine and a full-fledged electric vehicle. And Chinese manufacturers have begun to rapidly adapt to this shift.

The BlueCore system uses a new gasoline engine, a highly efficient transmission, and an electric drive with intelligent load distribution between the engines. Changan is also actively integrating its own software algorithms for controlling the hybrid system to optimize fuel consumption and energy recuperation.

After several years of aggressive EV racing, the world's largest automotive market is beginning to shift towards a more pragmatic scenario. And now, hybrids may become the main mass segment in the coming years.
