Another test of the Xiaomi SU7 active safety system caused a stir in the automotive industry. During the test, the sedan collided with an artificial embankment on the road at speed, after which it literally took off from the ground. At the same time, electronic assistants could not prevent the accident.

Judging by the published materials, the obstacle simulated an unusual road situation – an object that was difficult for cameras and driver assistance algorithms to recognize. As a result, the system did not perform automatic braking before contact with the obstacle, and the car received a serious vertical load after hitting the embankment. The test was designed to demonstrate the real limitations of modern ADAS systems.

This case is important for one reason: many drivers are beginning to perceive advanced electronic assistants as a full-fledged autopilot. However, most such systems, including Xiaomi's solutions, belong to level L2. This means that the driver must constantly monitor the road situation and be ready to intervene in control immediately.

The incident also coincided with a period of increased attention from Chinese regulators to automated driving technologies. After several high-profile accidents, authorities and manufacturers are increasingly emphasizing that even the most modern systems can make mistakes in rare or unusual scenarios. It is precisely such situations that are considered the most difficult for computer vision and object recognition algorithms.

For the industry, the conclusion is obvious: the development of autopilot depends not only on computing power and the number of sensors, but also on the ability of cars to correctly interpret unusual road conditions.
