Xiaomi sent a production crossover to Nürburgring without a driver and set a new record

The YU7 GT became the first car to officially complete the Nordschleife in autonomous mode without human intervention

Xiaomi continues to use the Nürburgring as a platform to showcase the capabilities of its vehicles. This time, the Chinese company set an unusual record: the YU7 GT electric crossover became the first production car to officially complete the Nordschleife in fully autonomous mode.

During testing, the car drove the legendary track without driver intervention, achieving a time of 10 minutes 29.483 seconds. The run became a benchmark for evaluating the capabilities of Xiaomi's proprietary autonomous driving software.

However, the electronics are still far from human pace. The autonomous result was 3 minutes and 7 seconds slower than the time achieved by a professional driver. The difference clearly demonstrates how much more cautiously algorithms operate compared to an experienced racer pushing the car to its limits.

The YU7 GT itself is among the most powerful electric crossovers on the market. The model is built on an 897-volt architecture using silicon carbide and is equipped with a 101.7 kWh battery.

The Super Motor V8s EVO powertrain develops up to 1003 hp (738 kW), allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.92 seconds. The top speed reaches 300 km/h, and the CLTC range is up to 705 kilometers.

One of the key features of the model remains ultra-fast charging. Thanks to the high-voltage architecture, the battery can replenish its energy reserve for approximately 570 kilometers in just 15 minutes.

Even during its development phase, the YU7 GT had already set a Nürburgring record among electric SUVs, achieving a time of 7 minutes 22.755 seconds under human control. The new autonomous run demonstrates not the car's dynamic capabilities, but Xiaomi's progress in automated driving systems.

This is particularly important for the company amidst the expansion of its automotive business. According to China EV DataTracker, in May 2026, Xiaomi sold 8736 units of the YU7 in the domestic market. Despite a slight decrease compared to April, the model remains one of the most notable new players in the electric crossover segment.
