In Russia, it's not new cars that are most frequently stolen. The primary targets for criminals are cars aged around five to six years, as they are easier to dismantle for parts and sell piece by piece.
According to retired police captain Valentin Ilyinov, these cars are the most in-demand in the secondary parts market. Body elements, optics, aggregates, and other components are highly sought after, and it's almost impossible to establish their origin after sale.
It's much easier to sell a car for parts than to sell it whole.
New cars, on the other hand, are stolen significantly less often because they do not yet require extensive repairs, and the demand for their parts is noticeably lower.
To protect a car, Ilyinov recommends not limiting oneself to the factory alarm system. He named CASCO insurance combined with an additional anti-theft system as the most reliable option.
